Eili Levy

 Mizaz Artist

Eili Levy, born in Jaffa in 1970, is based in Tel Aviv.

She currently manages the “Max-Machinery and Artifacts” lab at the Digital Art Center in Holon.

Levy’s work focuses on short, mechanically repetitive scenes enacted by objects. In 2007, she introduced the concept of “Mizaz” to describe her art, which involves the use of electric motors, mechanics, and ready-mades to create site-specific moving installations. Unlike kinetic art, her works often incorporate deliberate imperfections that generate unpredictable movements, leading to potential entanglement or failure of the mechanisms. Through endless repetitive loops imposed on her objects, Levy aims to offer alternative perspectives on human situations through the material’s interaction with space.

Levy has presented solo-duo exhibitions at the Digital Art Center (Holon), in collaboration with musician Chaim Rahmani, and at Kibbutz Ba’ari Gallery, in collaboration with artist Vered Levy. She has also exhibited in group shows at The Fetter Museum of Nanoscience and Art(Bar-Ilan University, 2021-2024), the Digital Art Center (Holon, 2009, 2015, 2017), Gallery P8 (Tel Aviv, 2016), FREIES Museum (Berlin, 2012), Barbur Gallery (Jerusalem, 2013), The Station for Art (Ramla, 2012), Mimos Festival de Périgueux (France, 2009), the Artists’ House (Tel Aviv, 2010), among others.

From 2011 to 2019, Levy co-founded “Tzatzit – Ensemble for Artists and Community” with artist Uri Levinson. This initiative fostered collaborations with galleries and exhibition spaces across Israel, conducting workshops in Mizaz installation construction with various communities. These workshops culminated in exhibitions showcasing the results of these collaborative engagements. The project received support from the “Artist in the Community” program of the Ministry of Culture between 2014 and 2017.
