A multidisciplinary artist born in 1990, living and working in Tel Aviv. Her works explore the relationships between body, material, and built space. They examine the ways in which architecture and material culture influence emotional and psychological experience, even without our awareness of it. Dotan works primarily in installations and site-dependent pieces that emerge from repeated observation of the same phenomena. Her works carry a physical and action-oriented character, and the working processes sometimes remain visible. The time and effort invested in them form an essential part of the viewer’s experience. In many works she incorporates still photography and video, and frequently collaborates with performance and sound artists. Mai holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from LUCA School of Arts in Brussels, studied at the Basis School for Art and Culture, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Art History and Psychology from the University of Haifa.
