Tal Shamir

Tal S. Shamir has directed, produced, wrote and edited dozens of short films that were presented in a wide range of film festivals, galleries and museums, and won many awards – including a gold medal in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ 2011 Student Oscars.

Serving in the Navy for 6 years, Tal created and commanded the Special-Ops Video-Team, manifesting the possibility to analyze the Navy Special-Forces training through video.

As part of his MA in Film studies, Tal also created and produced the RUFF CUTS & FINE CUTS film showcases, which allowed films-students to share, discuss and improve their films. This platform transformed into The New School’s Media Studies department central ongoing film-screening events.

Tal holds a PhD in philosophy, film and media from the European Graduate School, and his first book on cinema, titled Cinematic Philosophy, published by Palgrave Macmillan/Springer, came out in 2016 to raving reviews.

Tal recently completed directing/producing a short film, which is the beginning of a detective/espionage feature film currently in pre-production.
