In her objects, installations, drawings and photographs Lotte Lyon is dealing with the relationships between aesthetical values and practical functions. Her items are either taken from reality or remind us, despite their reductive and abstract shapes, on common experiences with furnitures or architectures in our everyday life. Her work is not about objects as hermetic and self sufficient units, but about different modes of representation and their influences on the interpretation of art. She often puts her objects in instabile positions, in order to refer on the ephemeral character of meaning as a general phenomenon. Lotte Lyons sensitivity regarding the materials in use and the quality of colour together with her sense for abstraction shows her awareness on the interferences between the rational and the sensual, the functional and the visual.
Lyon is a guest of the residency program through a partnership with The Arts and Culture Division of the Austrian Federal Chancellery.
